Company History
Prior to Mann Engineering being established, in 1978 Agricura Ltd. was founded by Siegfried Fuhrmann to manufacture calving aides for the agricultural sector.
In 1979 Agricura diversified and began repairing shopping trolleys nationwide, serving Dunnes Stores, H. Williams (now Tesco), Five Star, Superquinn and other major retailers.
While still manufacturing calving aids, a further opportunity to make manual handling equipment and office chairs was taken by Siegfried in 1984.
The company continued to grow with a workforce of 10 by the late 80's.
In 1993, after completing college and working for a number of years in the engineering sector, Siegfried’s son Rolf joined the company. Rolf then founded Mann Engineering Ltd with the main focus being on fabrication at that time. Later in 1993 the Rolf added stainless steel and aluminium fabrication to it’s now growing number of services.
At the end of ‘93 Mann Engineering expanded with the purchase of 5 Cam- auto lathes and commenced the manufacture of turned parts.
In 2000 Siegfried’s Agricura business was transferred to Mann Engineering Ltd after which assembly of finished products to customer specification was added.
The first CNC machine was purchased in 2001 and by 2004 a further 5 CNC machines were purchased. In 2004 the company invested further in capital equipment with the purchase of machining, finishing and quality inspection equipment, which included a Durr Ultra-Sonic parts cleaner and drier, CMM Inspection Equipment and the construction of a Quality Control Inspection & Calibration room.
By 2007 all Cam-auto lathes were replaced by CNC machines and to date we have 12 CNC machines operating in the machine shop with our most recent purchase being a Lagun 325 ATC machining centre.
A list of our machines and equipment can be viewed by clicking here.
Since 2007 we have also added Mastercam X3 computer aided manufacturing software and Seiki Enterprise Resource Planning software to improve efficiencies within the business. We also built a new office in 2008 to facilitate our growing business.
Since the mid 90’s when the company first began fabrication, we now produce/supply standard and non standard material handling equipment and fabricated solutions for the agricultural, engineering industry, shop display companies, other business such as supermarkets, warehouses, airports, couriers, cash-in-carry, hospitals, colleges and end users, through a skilled workforce.
At the beginning of 2010 we purchased a powder coating unit which we use for in-house produced products and for subcontract parts. More recently we installed a robotic welding cell for the fabrication department and a plasma cutter for special purpose cutting, both of which improve our efficiencies giving high accuracy and reduced lead times.
In the trolley department we now provide a shopping trolley repairs and maintenance service for Tesco, Supervalu, Pettittis, & Centra Stores from Dundalk southwards. We are also suppliers of new and reconditioned shopping trolleys and shopping trolley bays. In addition to the above we manufacture and supply specialised trolleys to the retail sector, warehouses, airports, couriers, cash-in-carry, hospitals, colleges and other end users.
At present the business has 18 employees.
